2012 Dad's Weekend - Coming Soon

Dad’s Weekend is Coming Soon!!  November 9th-11th
Each year on Dad’s weekend the Parents Club holds their semi-annual meeting as well as the Parents Club Auction.  Gifts donated for the Dad’s weekend auction provides opportunities to fund development programs and improvements to the AXO house.  At Mom’s weekend last April we raised $8,215 from auction items and donations!  Beat that!!!!!
Your gifts help to ensure that Alpha Chi Omega’s are leaders among Greek organizations, adapting to the ever-changing times while preserving timeless values. Your support does make a difference and is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.  We encourage everyone to participate and invite a parent that isn’t yet a member to this event.
We always welcome new ideas, so use your imagination, and let’s have some fun!! No donation is too small!  Dad, this is a great place to buy a gift for your daughter or wife!  For your convenience this year we will be accepting debit and credit cards at the auction.

Examples of past auction items:
  • WSU/Cougar themed baskets
  • Alpha Chi Omega items
  • Any golf item
  • Outerwear
  • Wine baskets
  • “Room” baskets for your daughter
  • Snack food baskets
  • Designer baskets (Starbucks, Coach, Nordstrom, etc.)
  • Movie basket
  • Sports basket (golf, football, basketball, etc.)
  • Adult beverage baskets (Margaritas, martinis, beer, etc.)
  • Game Basket (playing cards, board games, snacks, etc.)
  • Music Basket (ITunes cards, disco, rap, 70’s, etc.)
  • Cash is always accepted!

*Please bring all auction items to the AXO house by Friday night (11/9).  If possible include a list or description of items and cash value to help bring the highest bid!

Parents Club Membership Information

Parents Club Membership Information:

In order to be considered an “Active” member, it is necessary to have parent club dues paid each school year. Annual dues for the Parent Club are $25 per school year per family.

Since the Parents Club currently has only about 20 registered and dues paying members, this year we would like to get more parents involved in the Parents Club. Our goal for the 2012-2013 school year is to have at least a 75% participation rate of parents registered as active members of the Parents Club. Please consider becoming an active member of the Alpha Chi Omega – Omega Chapter Parent club today.

Parent Club dues may be paid one of three ways:
1. Sending a payment through the mail to:
Parents Club of Alpha Chi Omega
    C/O Becky Andersohn
    2803 S Heritage Ave
    Boise, ID 83709

2. Clicking on the DONATE button on this blog site to submit a payment through PayPal

3. Paying dues during the Parent Club meeting during Dad’s weekend Nov 9-11, 2012

Requests for how Parent Club funds will be used are typically presented to active Parent Club members either at Parent Club meetings during Dad’s and Mom’s weekends or through an email vote.

So in order to track membership, in addition to paying your dues, please provide your contact information so that we may stay in touch with you throughout the year. Please click here for the membership form. Complete the form and email a copy of the completed form to the officers of the Parent Club at axowsuparentsclub@gmail.com or send a paper copy of the completed form to Becky Andersohn at the address listed above.

We attempt to keep the Parent Club members involved and excited about ways to help the chapter and enrich our daughters’ Alpha Chi experience.

Thank you for your continued support.

Fall 2012 Parents Club Introduction

Hello WSU AXO Parents,

Your daughters are either current or new members of AXO sorority at WSU. We are proud to continue the tradition as a very active AXO Parent’s Club and are working to support the goals and ideals of the this chapter. The Parents Club club also raises funds that are used to offset costs to improve conditions at the chapter house as well as costs for activities that help bond the chapter members. You can see some of the results of the Parent’s Club funding in various postings to this blog site.

This summer we upgraded the flooring and furnishings to the TV or “crib” room, click here to see some of the pictures. We also contributed to a very successful rafting trip; please see  click here to see a video.

The AXO Parent’s Club meets as a group twice a year, Dad’s and Mom’s weekends where we update everyone on our finances, expenditures, and proposals for future needs. Membership in this club costs a nominal $25 per family per year. Another major source of funding are our auctions that we hold at both parent’s weekends, Fall and Spring. The meeting minutes for the last few parents’ weekends are posted to this blog site and as you can see, both have been very successful enabling the club to continue its mission.

We recently reviewed the active Parent’s club dues paid listing membership and noticed we only had 20 parents on the list. We decided that we needed to push for more active members and will use this upcoming Dad’s weekend to make the membership drive a priority. We asked the AXO executive board to provide us with an updated email address listing for all AXO Sorority members’ parents and are using that to reach out to all of you to consider supporting this club and your daughters. This listing provided us with 166 parent’s email addresses (since some ladies provided more than one email address).

Details for this year’s upcoming Dad’s weekend activities will be posted on the AXO Parent’s Club site as soon as they become available. As usual, we are looking for donations for the auction and are looking for a very successful and fun weekend.

Go Cougs!

House Update Summer 2012

Hello AXO Parents Club members,
A lot of activity has been going on at the Omega Chapter house since our daughters left for the summer.  Linda Tate, the house director, has been working to get the house ready for when the girls return next month.
As you may recall, at the Mom's weekend parents club meeting we agreed to contribute $7,500 toward replacing the flooring in the downstairs TV room (a.k.a. "The Crib"). The flooring has been replaced and Linda is purchasing some final touches for the room to have it in tip top shape for recruitment.  Linda will be purchasing an area rug as well as decorative pillows and other odds and ends to update the appearance of this room.
Also, the backrooms on the top floor of the house have now been updated similarly to the second floor rooms that were done last year and all mattresses on every bed in the house are being replaced.  These last two improvements were funded by the Alpha Chi Omega National Housing Corporation.

Below are pictures of the improvements to the house:

Raft Trip Update

Hello AXO Parents!
Just a quick update on the rafting trip that we mentioned in the last post.  Of the parents that responded to our request to vote on this, the vote was unanimous that the Parents Club should partially fund the rafting trip.  The Parents Club has committed $5,000 toward the overall cost of the raft trip. Chapter president Gabby Buonviri is working on the details of the trip so that everything will be ready when our daughters return to school next month.  We do not have the actual date of the trip yet, that is something Gabby is working out with the rafting company but we do know it will be after recrutiment and after school starts.  Just a reminder, it will be a one day rafting trip  for approximately 90 girls on a first come, first-served basis.
If you have any questions about the trip, please email us at axowsuparentsclub@gmail.com

June 2012 AXO Parents Club Newsletter

Welcome to summer AXO Parents Club!Hello AXO Parents Club members.  We hope your summer is going well and everyone is staying safe.  I am your current AXO Parent’s Club (PC) President as I was voted in during last spring’s Mom’s Weekend PC meeting just prior to the very successful auction.  I have attached the meeting minutes for your review which also includes information about your current PC Officers.  Mom’s weekend auction raised $8015! Our current AXO Parents Club treasury balance stands at $17,348.93.

As you can see from the last meeting minutes, a motion was put forth and approved for a budget of $7,500 to be applied to improvements to the “Crib” or TV room.  I have been advised that the improvements including the floor replacement should be completed shortly and should total close to $6,500.  Additional room accessories will be purchased by Linda and the Sorority President (Gabby Buonviri) which may come to an additional $500.
There are no additional known expenses expected this summer.

I have been asked by the AXO Sorority President Gabby Buonviri if the AXO Parent’s Club would be willing to contribute funds towards a raft trip this fall, similar to what the club has contributed in the past.  A vote about the raft trip funding was made during the Mom’s weekend meeting, and it was voted down, partly because there were no details available regarding the raft trip or the potential costs.  Since then, the Sorority executive board received multiple inquiries from the girls about a raft trip, did their research on availability and costs for a raft trip, and submitted a request to me for funds.  They have proposed the following:

Salmon River Experience website

Raft trip Dates – 8/26 or 9/9
Maximum number of participants – 90
(2) Charter Busses - Day trip up and back (depart 7am, return 4-5pm) - $3150
Raft company charges at $57 per person for 90 girls - $5130

Total Raft trip costs - $8280

Recommended Parents Club contribution - $5000

Net difference - $3280

Fee for girls to pay - $36.44 per person.

Our $5000 contribution to this event lowers the girls cost for this trip by 60%.  I was told that Gabby recently surveyed all the girls about interest in the raft trip and there was a unanimous positive response (70+ responded), none negative. Their plan would be to offer this to all members, including new ones, on a first come, first served basis beginning with the first Monday after school starts.

According to our By-laws, we are required to have all Parents’ Club members in good standing (paid dues for the current year) respond to this email voting for or against the request to fund up to $5000 towards a raft trip for the girls.
Please respond to axowsuparentsclub@gmail.com with a YES or NO vote by 7/7/12.  We will answer any additional questions you may have,  just forward them to this email and we will answer them as best we can and as quickly as we can.

Thanks for your support!  Go COUGS!
